Fleur:ology at the Art of Weddings 2012 {Part 1} | Portland, Oregon Bridal Show

January 22nd, 2012

We did our first bridal show! And I’m pretty sure we ROCKED it!
I had the wonderful honor of being a vendor at one of Portland’s best bridal events last week!
The Art of Weddings bridal show is known to be a fabulous, high-end bridal show where you can come to meet some of the best wedding vendors in the area.  It’s not your typical overwhelming wedding “trade show”, but a much more relaxed environment where you can take your time getting to know the vendors, taste food, enjoy drinks, and actually leave feeling INSPIRED and excited to plan your wedding!
The space was a collaboration between myself and the amazing Lindsay of Paper Bloom!
I love Lindsay so much!! Not only is she MY graphic designer for Fleur:ology, but she is a fellow mommy, AMAZING invitation and stationary designer and has become a dear friend since we first met at the Art of Weddings last year!  So this was an extra special night for us, because we were celebrating our 1 year friend-iversary!!  Lindsay and I spent countless hours working together to plan our space, design the theme of our main table, and other designs that we had on display for the show.  I had so much fun working with her, and it was such a stress-free and enjoyable creative process!  Here are the photos I took of our little space at the Art of Weddings bridal show!!
For starters, we had both of our signs hung [both designed by Lindsay!].  The entire venue at Pure Space was softened up with white chiffon draping, but we added a few white uplights to make our space really glow and stand out from the rest!  Our main attraction was a 6 foot banquet table featuring a modern yet romantic wedding theme.

Next to our main display table, Lindsay and I collaborated on a few other bridal trends that we wanted to showcase.  We called this our “style” table, and had a little sign that read: “What’s Your Bridal Style?”  This was a chance for brides to see that we can do more than just modern glam, but we love ALL the gorgeous wedding trends that are alive and well today!  [In the order that they appear below...]

Our fabulous Marketing Table was covered with a floor length grey linen, and a silver sequins overlay that added some serious sparkle to our little corner of the bridal show!!   We had our business cards and postcards displayed here, as well as our iPads with our portfolio’s playing as slideshows, a bowl of  delicious lavender french macaroons [baked by my amazing friend Rachel], and of course more flowers, box of stationary by Lindsay and a few candles!
The bouquet I designed for this table didn’t photograph very well in the lighting here, but it was made of silver dusty miller leaves, eggplant colored mini calla lilies, and a few gorgeous mini succulents!

Alex + Mary | Details, Details…

January 7th, 2012

For every wedding I design, I can’t help but snap my own photos of my creations before they leave to be delivered.  Parting is such sweet sorrow.  I really do fall in love with the theme, flowers, and designs of each wedding I do, and I am so thankful that at the end of the day, I have some really great detail shots of the floral designs that were created for that weeks happy couple!
They’re not the greatest images, so to read the full post on Alex + Mary’s wedding, and to see the gorgeous professional images by MAXM Studio, go HERE.
To start us off, here is a photo of me designing one of the bridesmaids bouquets.
It’s rare that I get a photo of me actually designing, and you can’t even see my face, but here I am in action!
Here is a shot of me holding the bridal bouquet as I was adding more stems to it.

And a little close up shot of the bridal bouquet, and the little tag I attached that says “The Beautiful Bride”.
A close up of the gorgeous crystal beaded applique that was attached to the handle of the  bridal bouquet.  Sadly, this little beauty did a very good job of hiding itself from our cameras the day of the wedding, but I promise you, it looked just glorious on the bouquet handle!

The Maid of Honor [Sister of the Bride] also had a similar beaded applique on her bouquet handle, and again, this is the ONLY photo I have of it!  :(

All of the bouquets here, all lined up and waiting for the bride to come and see them for the first time!
And here, the look on the brides face when she saw the bouquets and boutonnieres I had delivered.
This makes my job SO fun!
Shot of the brides Toss Bouquet.
The boutonnieres all boxed up, laying on a bed of moss.
Front and center is the Grooms Boutonniere consisting of a balsawood flower, poppy pod and silver brunia berries.

Next up, I’ll share images from the wedding reception, starting with the birdcage that sat on the guest sign in table. We filled it with moss and flowers, and also placed a cluster of flowers on the outside of it. [Pink peonies, white hydrangea, poppy pods, scabiosa pods, queen anne's lace, lady hair fern, filbert branch tips]

The low centerpieces were designed in a dark-stained wood box and filled with white hydrangea, dark pink peonies, scabiosa and poppy pods, a dried lotus pod and a touch of moss.  I mixed the glam/feminine theme with the woodsy elements by designing lush and girly floral with the natural pods, moss and wood vessel.

I love how these looked on the guest tables.
We had to save a lot of room for all the food appetizers, bread and beverages that would be set out on the tables before the guests even started being seated, so this centerpiece was the perfect size!
Again, I LOVE the guest favors that Mary chose – gold foiled Jordan Almonds sitting in a miniature bird nest!

The tall centerpieces were made similar to the low ones, but instead of moss, we added some super pretty queen anne’s lace to add a feminine touch.
White hydrangea, pink peonies, queen anne’s lace, dried lotus pods.
The centerpieces were set atop a tall glass cylinder vase that was filled inside with moss and a few curly willow branches, and delicate hanging lady hair fern to add to the woodland feel.

The photo below is probably one of the only ones I have that would give you an idea of how the whole reception hall looked.  There were 40 guest tables all with ivory linens, chocolate brown chivari chairs, and the long head table seating the bridal party had a gorgeous ivory and brown drape behind it!
Last but not least, the Head Table Design.  I created an awesome monogram for the bride and groom that was covered in moss.  We hung it from the front of the head table with strips of burlap.

The front edge of the head table was lined with a tablescape of small floral arrangements, apothecary jars filled with flowers, moss, balsawood flowers, fern and pods.  There were candles wrapped in burlap, white river rocks scattered along the edge, lanterns filled with moss and candles, and bird nests filled with little eggs!

January 7th, 2012

Warning: I am about to share with you a ridiculous amount of super gorgeous images.  And, I’m going to talk about the little details in all of them.  A lot of really, pretty, details.  Enjoy!

Alex + Mary’s wedding was definitely one of my favorite weddings of 2011.  They were married on July 9th, 2011 at Alex’s Church in Fairview, Oregon.  The theme of their wedding was what I would call Woodland Glam.  The beautiful bride, Mary, is as girly as they come. We used lots of pink in the florals, very lush and romantic with a little bit of bling, but added touches of moss, branches, and adorable bird nest wedding favors for her guests! Here are images of their beautiful wedding day as captured by the amazing MAXM Studio.

I think she liked my work… the look on her face is priceless!
Working with Mary was a D R E A M
SO glad I could make her big day that much more special.

Gotta love the First Look!

Such an amazing photo capturing the emotion in that moment when her father is walking her down the aisle!

Such a special moment when the father of the bride and groom pray over their children and bless their future lives together!

Now on to the wedding reception, which was held in the reception hall attached to the church that they were married in.  With over 400 friends and family attending Alex & Mary’s wedding, and most of them being Eastern European, you can only imagine that there was a LOT of food!  The reception was a sit down dinner, with the bride, groom and their entire bridal party seated at a large head table at the front of the room.  Guest tables held a combination of tall and short centerpieces, and the head table was adorned with a moss covered monogram, and the front edge lined with an assortment of small floral arrangements, candles wrapped with burlap, apothecary jars filled with flowers, moss, and fern. There were also lanterns, white river rocks, and don’t forget the nests!!
This beautiful birdcage filled with and adorned with flowers sat on the guest sign in table.
[Scabiosa pods, poppy pods, white hydrangea, pink peonies, moss, lady hair fern, and queen anne's lace]

These were the ADORABLE nest favors for the guests, and they held gold wrapped Jordan Almonds – my favorite!

The tall centerpieces were an arrangement of white hydrangea, pink peonies, queen anne’s lace, and dried lotus pods, set atop a tall cylinder vase filled with moss at the bottom and a few curly willow branches.
Moss covered monogram hung by burlap straps from the front edge of the head table.

Nests holding bird eggs, and white river rocks at the base of an apothecary jar.

More apothecary jars holding moss, a bird nest, fern.

All of the guests, including the bridal party seated at the head table, sat on chocolate brown chivari chairs with brown cushions.  Man, those bird nest favors are SO CUTE!

The cake was baked and designed by a friend of the family – it sat on a bed of birch wood cookies, and the topper was a cluster of hot pink garden roses and scabiosa pods.  The birch arbor from the ceremony was repurposed as a back drop for the cake in the reception hall.

Next, I just have to share more images with you that the couple and bridal party took after their early reception was over.  AMAZING photos by MAXM Studio taken at McMenamins Edgefield, and the Oregon Coast!

In this photo you can see a closer shot of the gorgeous crystal beaded applique on the bridal bouquet handle.

Congratulations again to Alex + Mary.
They were so amazing to work with, even though I only met with Mary a few times in person – she actually planned most of the wedding from her hometown of Sacramento, California!
You two make a gorgeous couple, God bless you!
